Big Changes Around Here

Well, the past month has been a whirlwind of a month!!! Here's the layout...

November 1 - Nathan sees a job posting on monster.com for a landscape supervisor position for the city of Spartanburg, SC. He submits his resume and applies for the job.

November 7 - They call him for an interview and schedule it for Wednesday. That night Nathan sits for review to become a deacon in front of our church's session and diaconate. This is after he completed a 17 page written exam from his 13 week officer's training class.

November 9 - He drives 4 hours up to Spartanburg for the interview. He sits in front of 4 board of directors. They say, "Welcome. Don't be nervous." He silently thinks, "Nervous? This is a piece of cake compared to what I just went through." He drives home that same day, calls me on the phone and says, "Pack your bags. We're moving to Spartanburg. I nailed the interview!" What?!

November 17 - He's offered the job. Has this been an answer to prayer - almost 4 years of prayer?

November 18 - He turns in his letter of resignation to his current employer. They counter with a significant pay increase.

November 19 - We drive to Spartanburg stopping at the interstates' rest stops to have lunch and later dinner. Yummy! Actually it was nice to eat packed lunches and picnic outside. Samuel thought that it was great! We drive around town because I had never been there before and wanted to get a glimpse of a place that my family might be living in.

November 21, 22, 23 - We PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!!!! We crunch numbers and decide that in the long run, the job in Spartanburg would be better for us. So...we decide to decline the pay increase and move. Wow!!!

November 24 - Thanksgiving Day! Great day with the Bragg family and my 33rd birthday. We also drove down to my mom and dad's house to say goodbye to my Grandma Betty. She had been suffering from chronic lung disease for 20 years and Alzhimers also.

November 27 - My grandmother passes. My dad was by her side holding her hand and saying goodbye. She went peacefully and for that I rejoice.

December 2 - Nathan's last day at The Landings.

December 3 - My grandmother's memorial service in Macon.

December 4 - After talking it over with our pastor and receiving council from him, Nathan is ordained as a deacon. Even though we are leaving, our pastor says that this will be for the church universal and not just our own. We do look forward to serving our new church - where ever that may be.

December 5 - Nathan finally finishes the arbor outside on our back porch. It only took a year and scrounging up the $100 to finish it, but it is beautiful. Selfishly, I am sad that we won't be able to enjoy it.

December 6 - Our house is officially for sale! Oh Lord, please guide someone to our home quickly.

December 8 - Nathan leaves for Spartanburg. We won't see him until Christmas. The boys and I are staying until Nathan can find a place for all of us to live. It was sad to say goodbye because we will miss him! But no time for tears. We had to rush out of the house for a Christmas Cookie Party at a friends' house for all of our babysitters. My sweet friend, Kay, offered her home for the party since my house was in the middle of boxes and sending off my husband. I actually scheduled this party way back in November before all of this came up and didn't want to cancel. We have such wonderful young ladies who watch Samuel and Matthew while I go to work, and I wanted to honor them and say thank you.

December 9 - Nathan starts his new job.

December 10 - I decide to decorate for Christmas even if we are in the middle of cleaning out and packing. Just small things like the manger scene and our stockings.

I go in and out of the reality of moving. I cried twice already in Bible study when I was telling everbody the news and to say thank you for their prayers. I've cried when Samuel says, "I don't want new friends. I want the old ones."

However, I know that God is directing us and he is with us. His name is Immanuel - God with us. And that makes me grateful and excited.
